Sampa+Rural

Bringing visibility to the rural areas of the City of São Paulo

Platform that brings together initiatives in agriculture, tourism, and healthy eating in one place

Context

About one-third of São Paulo’s territory is rural. Located in the southern, eastern, and northern zones of the city, these areas have a tremendous potential for diversity.

Sampa+Rural is being developed by the Ligue os Pontos project, coordinated by the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Development, in collaboration with other municipal secretariats and agencies. The project, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, is the result of a proposal by the São Paulo City Hall to promote the sustainable development of rural areas and improve their relationships with the urban environment. Numerous partners and collaborators are also contributing to strengthen this network of connections.

Solution

To bring together, in one platform, information on sustainable rural development, tourism, the environment, and healthy eating, where any citizen can explore and discover the rural areas of the city.

Process

An agile and collaborative method was used with co-creation sessions at the start of each sprint to develop a list of features, which was defined based on an initial project workshop.

Outcomes

The platform allows users to find data on where to buy local products, who the farmers in the city are, and who sells these products. It also showcases nature-related attractions and rural tourism, highlighting the environmental and economic characteristics of these regions. Additionally, the platform features civil society and government initiatives aimed at connecting the city to sustainable practices.

Mobile

The responsive platform was developed with special attention to interactions with the map and the list of rural zone actors. Given that this area contains a large amount of information and interaction possibilities, such as category selection, filters, pins, and list items, the mobile version was designed for contextual navigation, minimizing usage complexity.

Learnings

Process is essential

This project had a rigid deadline, numerous features to be developed, and high expectations from stakeholders. Throughout the project, we faced challenges related to deadlines and approvals. In all cases, adhering to and following the design process was essential to meet deadlines without compromising the quality of the deliverables.
